ALKINOIS PRESENTS OF ECHOES AND MIRRORS CURATED BY NICOLA NITIDO

23.10.2025 - 9.11.2025

At the heart of the exhibition stands Wilhelm von Gloeden, the emblematic photographer.

Working in Taormina at the turn of the 20th century, von Gloeden reimagined the male body through the light of Sicily and its ancient echoes. His portraits, often of local young men posed as gods or heroes, transcend eroticism to celebrate a queer vision of harmony between nature and body.

Through his lens, the classical ideal was reborn.

The exhibition grows from this legacy, unfolding as a constellation of voices and visions across time. It connects artists who, like von Gloeden, explore the intersection of identity, memory, and myth, from Tsarouchis and List’s dialogues on masculinity to contemporary works by Copelli, Kefalas, Shaheen, Celin, and Dallos, animated by a performance by Rene Habermacher and Niko Rupllem.

Here, the Mediterranean is not just a place but a feeling, fluid, layered, and sensually emotional, a space where queerness and heritage intertwine, revealing how the ancient and the modern, the personal and the collective, continue to mirror one another in the same enduring light.
