After years of therapy, Zarifopoulos paints what he couldn’t say out loud
before: belts, guns, raised hands, words used as weapons, the actual
vocabulary of a violent household turned into canvas. His father’s
violence toward his mother becomes the material itself, rendered directly
rather than softened into metaphor. It arrives at a moment when
domestic violence and femicide keep resurfacing in the news, one
family’s private repetition standing in for a much wider pattern. Again &
Again means exactly that: the same image, the same object, painted
over and over until repetition itself becomes the subject.
