Whoever leaves carries the centre of their world along, and it never sits
quite the same once set down elsewhere. AMAN AMAN follows that
fracture across the long routes between Anatolia, Greece and Germany,
from the polyglot Ottoman world to the Berlin dormitories where distance
became its own form of freedom. The title is borrowed from a song, a
lament that Greek and Turkish voices share, a sigh that crosses
languages untranslated and insists: we are here. In Tavros, a
neighbourhood raised by refugees from Asia Minor and still a harbour for
newcomers, artists listen to what remains when home splits into here
and there: fragments, tongues, tastes and inheritances carried along the
way.
