ELENI KORONEOU GALLERY PRESENTS NICE TO MEET YOU, AGAIN BY Uman

Some greetings carry the warmth of an old friendship. In NICE TO MEET YOU,

AGAIN, Uman welcomes us back into a world of saturated color: her new rainbow

paintings, where deep fields of blue, green, plum and orange glow beneath a black

grid like a mosaic lit from within. Eyes, orbs and pulsing marks look out from its

cells, painted with her own fingers, built up, scraped away and built again until

every surface hums. Memories of Somali and Kenyan textiles, the rhythm of Arabic

calligraphy and a deep bond with nature run through each canvas, and the

paintings greet us like old friends, vivid, sensual and ready to be met again.
