The George Economou Collection presents: Charline von Heyl – The Giddy Road to Ruin

14.07.2025 - 27.02.2026

At The George Economou Collection in Athens, The Giddy Road to Ruin presents Charline von Heyl’s work not as a survey, but as a live, breathing entity: scattered, fluid, unpredictable.

The exhibition doesn’t follow chronology or theme, but something more intuitive, an architecture of a vision.

The paintings inhabit the building like fragments of thought, dispersed across its modular, shifting spaces in a way that activates their differences. Architecture becomes part of the visual choreography, forcing the eye to reorient, to pause, to look again.

Von Heyl’s expressive large-scale paintings, spanning the last decade, are layered and restless, driven by both instinct and precision. In new works sparked by her time in Athens, fragments of ruins, silhouettes of sculptures, and the haunting repetition of owls emerge like obsessive memories collaged into paint.

There is no single meaning, only visual momentum, and the pleasure of seeing without needing to “solve.”
