THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF GREECE PLAKA BUILDING PRESENTS HEIDI BUCHER ORAÍO SPÍTI

In the summers of 1960 and 1961, Heidi Bucher spent her

time on Mykonos, taken with the island’s stark white cubic

houses, which she recorded in her notebooks as Oraío Spíti,

Beautiful House. She was struck by how the seasonal lime-

washing turned architecture into something liminal, a skin

rather than a fixed boundary, the idea that would run

through her entire practice: where does a body end and a

space begin. This beautifully articulated retrospective

brings together those notebooks, sculptural models of the

island’s houses, and water sculptures where Bucher pushes

a liquid mass toward architecture itself.
