MERMAIDS TALES CURATED BY SOFYA SIMAKOVA, GIARDINI STUDIOS
Mermaids’ Tales brings together five women artists of the same generation. Working in painting, drawing and sculpture, they explore the enduring myth of the mermaid as both symbol and mirror, a figure shaped by beauty, solitude and inner contradiction.
Set on the island of Hydra, where sea and story converge, the exhibition draws from ancient Greek lore, postwar cinema and feminist interpretations of myth.
Rather than treating the mermaid as fantasy, the works reflect on how women artists navigate visibility, desire and identity.
Like the mermaid, the artist exists between worlds, fluid, uncertain, and often caught between the freedom to create and the pressure to conform.
