ILEANA TOUNTA CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER PRESENT ICONOSTASES BY MARILIA FOTOPOULOU & EVGENIA GRIGORAKI’S
At Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center the dual exhibition ICONOSTASES unites Marilia
Fotopoulou and Evgenia Grigoraki’s photographic gazes on Greece’s roadside shrines, vivid
emblems of spirituality, religion, and faith steeped in Greek Orthodox iconography.
Fotopoulou probes their exteriors woven into landscapes and dim interiors of icons, vigil lamps,
and sacred remnants, where symbolism bridges the divine and mortal realms amid decay.
Grigoraki documents shrines and tamata from her decades of road trips, celebrating their folkcrafted forms, votive offerings, and ties to Orthodox devotion in nature. Together, these visions,
where seasoned intuition meets contemporary precision, illuminate the enduring symbols of faith
and capture a beautiful expression of belief.
