GRANMA EPSYLON presents: Under the Sign of the Fold By Alba Savoi
Under the Sign of the Fold, Alba Savoi’s inaugural retrospective, 40 works (paintings, collages, sculptures, artist’s books) curated by Paolo Cortese and Rosanna Ruscio, tracing her late-1970s to early-1990s optic obsessions.
Alba Savoi’s black-and-white optic mural works captivate, twisting perspectives, layering textures, and conjuring depth from fabric surfaces where fluid drapery clashes with rigid forms, bidimensional planes exploding outward. Drawn irresistibly to the “fold,” she explored its visual thrill and conceptual heft, her manipulations of canvas pulsing with vital force. What might evoke feminine domesticity instead erupts as raw power, savagely questioning the autonomy of the surface in a dialogue of unfolding potentials.
