GEORGE BENIAS PRESENTS THE PARTHENON MARBLES AND OTHER LOOTED OBJECTS IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM BY MICHAEL MCGREGOR

London-Athens based artist Michael McGregor (b. 1983) opens his first Greek solo show, channeling his signature Breather-logo motifs and vivid gouache still lifes, once fixated on wide-eyed fruits and figures, into the Parthenon Marbles debate. Post-LA years and fresh off Acropolis/British Museum pilgrimages, his 2023–2026 paintings and drawings like The Karyatides, The Parthenon Marbles, and Horse of Selene recast the British Museum as a “stolen goods empire.” It’s a bold pivot blending pop whimsy with repatriation fire, from Byron’s verse to Venizelos’ diplomacy.
