GAGOSIAN PRESENTS EUGÈNE ATGET BY URS FISCHER

9.06.2026 - 12.09.2026

Eugène Atget presents a new body of work by Urs Fischer, an artist whose practice is defined by

transformation, instability, and the continual reinvention of images.

Moving fluidly between sculpture, painting, photography, and installation, Fischer draws from art

history, everyday life, and the urban environment.

The exhibition’s title invokes the pioneering photographer Eugène Atget, whose meticulous

documentation of Paris produced one of the most influential visual archives of the modern city. By

borrowing Atget’s name, Fischer establishes a productive tension between the act of recording

and the act of reinvention. If Atget’s photographs sought to preserve a changing urban reality,

Fischer’s works embrace the restless circulation of images in the present, where memories,

references, and visual fragments are continuously transformed.

Created for his first solo exhibition in Athens, these works extend the artist’s ongoing exploration

of how images persist, mutate, and shape contemporary perception.
