DIO HORIA PRESENTS: HOSTS AND PARASITES BY DORA ECONOMOU
Opening June 5 at Dio Horia Gallery in Athens, Hosts and Parasites is Dora Economou’s latest sculptural mind-bender.
Using humble materials like pastel cotton and wool, she folds, twists, hangs from the ceiling and codes her way into forms that feel organic, ancient, and oddly futuristic. Origami technique and bamboo meet a somehow digital pulse.
The title was sparked in Brazil where orchids are growing wild on trees like parasites, killing them while enchanting the landscape. That tension runs through the entire show, blooming into a kind of soft jungle of hybrid forms. Sculptures twist like ivy, bloom like quiet invaders, and echo her recent travels through Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, and the Mekong. It’s a lush remix of cultures, craft languages, and materials, all folded into unexpectedly alive forms.
