CRUX GALLERY PRESENTS THE NEVER EVER LAND BY FOTINI POULIA
This is a strong and unsettling body of work, grounded in the feeling of being alone with borrowed
emotions. Poulia’s paintings resemble cinematic stills stripped of narrative certainty images taken
from films and documentaries, photographed directly from a laptop screen and removed from their
original function and storytelling. Dramatic lighting, heavy curtains, and dark green-blue tones
heighten a sense of psychological suspension, producing a deliberate emotional distance. Staring
into the vain, the paintings are post-consumed, stripped from their own story, a metaphor for the life
of others, while our emotions unfold secondhand through screens, incestuous fragments, and paused
images.
