CALLIRHOË PRESENTS: Disappearing act/second life – with works by Philipp Fleischmann, Isabelle Ha Eav Ruiz, Constantinos Hadzinikolaou and Stavros Kassis – curated by Eva Vaslamatzi
This exhibition looks at image-making from the side of what’s usually left out, discarded footages, erased figures, obsolete techniques, and found materials. There’s a shared interest in the limits of the medium, the afterlife of the material, not to push it in a spectacular way, but to test what still holds, what can still be reactivated. It’s about what happens when they are given a second chance, when time and use become part of the work itself.
I appreciated the restraint across the show. Nothing tries too hard to explain itself, yet everything feels carefully placed. The works speak through process and presence, things loop, fade, resurface. The approach recalls aspects of Arte Povera, not in style but in spirit, through its use of modest materials and a raw sensitivity to time, context, and transformation.
