ALKINOIS PRESENTS: An Evening Botanist BY Andreas Mallouris
Andreas Mallouris lets a quiet, visceral bloom rise toward the brutalist ceiling of Alkinois Gallery, a vertical drift where spines, and scent entwine in a lush, sinuous hum.
Rose branches twist through contorted metal railings that seem to delimit a virtual space, though one never knows if they’re keeping us out or drawing us further in. His works move like bodies in a garden and a clinic at once, where botanical forms are infused with sin and labor, and matter bends under a surgical gaze. Mysterious shapes emerge, strange yet strangely alive, as if grafts themselves were thinking.
Under Panos Giannikopoulos’s curation, the exhibition becomes a clandestine ritual: a system of supports and thorns, where matter stays multiple yet holds together.
The viewer is pulled into a kind of mystic vortex, a slow, alert blooming that feels both inevitable and forbidden.
