BENAKI MUSEUM PRESENTS CAHIERS D’ART 100 YEARS Through the Collections of the Benaki Museum
A hundred years ago in Paris, the Greek critic and publisher Christian Zervos launched Cahiers
d’Art, one of the great magazines of modernism, and changed the way we look at art. Its black-and-
white photographs placed ancient figures beside modern masters and let them speak as equals,
because for Zervos the past was alive in every present. The Benaki Museum honors that vision with
objects from its own collections, drawn from different eras and cultures and gathered in one
luminous space. Color frames each piece, prisms and reflections multiply it, and the room becomes
a hypnotic kaleidoscope where every object is seen again through the others. Antiquity and
modernity share the same light.
