CAN GALLERY PRESENTS ONE DAY I SAW THE SUNSET FORTY – THREE TIMES By Alexandros Laios

Laios borrows his title from The Little Prince, but strips the sun
of any comfort it once offered. Each work starts as a tiny collage
built on a photographic slide, scanned at high resolution until
every scratch, speck of dust and imperfection turns into
something monumental, then printed onto glass, paper or
awning fabric and folded into sculpture. The images carry
burns, holes, chromatic shifts, marks that read like retinal
afterimages, what’s left behind once you’ve stared too long at
something too bright. Beach umbrellas closed, a stool still wet,
plastic surfaces gone soft with heat: familiar summer objects
turned strangely depleted, caught in the after of use rather than
the moment itself. Light here stops revealing and starts eroding,
overexposure less about visibility than the point where it
collapses.
