CALLIRRHOË PRESENTS GROUNDING BY VASILIS PAPAGEORGIOU

27.05.2026 - 26.09.2026

Grounding stages a subtle geological revolt: The bronze
Scarps suspended on the gallery walls appear geological at
first glance, yet their surfaces reveal limestone fused with
cement, brick, shells and construction debris
materials compressed into hybrid formations that blur the
boundary between erosion, the natural and the constructed.
Cast from rocks collected on a Cycladic island, they read as
condensed records of the island’s recent history. This
ambiguity recurs throughout the exhibition: a photograph
isolates the sunburnt neck of a technician beneath a hat
emblazoned with the word “UTOPIA”. The island emerges
not as an idyllic escape but as a site of ongoing negotiation
between landscape and labour, where even the ground bears
traces of a new, transitional ideology that trespasses nature
and geology.
