BENAKI MUSEUM PRESENTS THE INVASION OF ANTIQUITY ALEKSANDRA WALISZEWSKA

3.06.2026 - 27.09.2026

Irruption of Antiquity creates a strong impactful dialogue
between the Benaki Museum’s historical collections and the
contemporary paintings of Aleksandra Waliszewska. By
placing her haunting, symbolic works alongside objects
from different periods of Greek history, the exhibition
reveals how ancient myths, figures, and visual symbols
continue to haunt the present.
Across two museum floors, Waliszewska’s paintings and
the Benaki’s ancient objects collide like remembered
thunder: Neolithic idols, Classical gods, Byzantine icons,
and modern relics surfacing as restless apparitions.
Her phantasmagoric canvases, let myth and bodily gesture
irrupt into the present: sex and death, ritual, and haunted
family allegories braided into a living procession.
Antiquity here is not a museum case but a pressing breath,
an inheritance that disturbs and compels, a long thread of
images and symbols pulling us into darker, exquisite
dialogues between past and present.
